Michael Sukkar was elected to the Federal Parliament representing the seat of Deakin at the 2013 federal election.
He has lived, worked and been a part of the Deakin electorate for his whole life. He is passionate about the local community, and understands the issues that concern residents.
Michael grew up in Ringwood and attended primary school at Sacred Heart in Croydon and then secondary school at Aquinas College in Ringwood. After secondary school, he went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University in Burwood. He later furthered his studies by completing a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne.
Prior to entering Parliament, Michael spent several years working as a lawyer with the firm Ashurst Australia (then known as Blake Dawson Waldron) where he was a Senior Associate, and worked as a Senior Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he specialised in taxation.
Since entering Parliament, Michael has been a vocal advocate for his community, fighting to deliver better outcomes for the people of Deakin. In particular, Michael is dedicated to improved infrastructure, community safety, and supporting local community and sporting groups.
Michael is honoured to represent the constituents of Deakin in the Federal Parliament. He has previously served in the Ministry as Assistant Minister to the Treasurer and on a number of parliamentary committees, including as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence & Security.
Michael is married to Anna, and has a son, Leo.http://www.michaelsukkar.com.au/
Shadow Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events
As your State Member for the electorate of Croydon, I am committed to supporting local residents, businesses and community organisations. On this site you will find media releases, photos, and information from local events, which I hope you find informative. As a leader that prioritises engagement and community, I believe in informing and communicating with the people I represent, and endeavour to work towards a safer and better community for all. Have a look at my folio for more information about my plans, concerns and the Liberal Nationals policies for Victoria.
We love sport. We know that sporting clubs are the beating hearts of our communities.
We want to see more families enjoying sporting clubs and socialising together. We want women and children to feel just as comfortable in the clubrooms as men.
We know that binge drinking drives families away from sports clubs, so we’re all about supporting clubs to put sport – not booze – in the spotlight.
Good Sports is a three-step program for sporting clubs. We provide resources and training to help clubs tackle alcohol-related issues as well as mental health, smoking and obesity.
Our aim is for all Australians to be the healthiest they can be. Find out how we aim to do this here.
Good Sports is run by the Australian Drug Foundation, which has more than 50 years’ experience – so you’re in safe hands.
